Summer Smore Martini

summer smore martini

I’ll be the first to admit, that I’ve slowed down a bit. I started off really strong with this cocktail of the month mission of mine, but the struggle is real lately. The sad thing is, I have all my cocktails for the rest of the year already planned! I hate making excuses, but I’m planning my wedding and I was recently promoted at my 9-5 job. While my free time to pursue my passions is precious to me, I’m finding that I really don’t have any. With that being said, I’m still making a real effort to get out new content when I can. So, this month I made a Summer Smore Martini!

I don’t remember where I was, or who I was talking to, but this mystery person actually admitted to me that they had never eaten a smore. Isn’t that crazy? Smores are a quintessential summertime treat! Everyone should know the joys of biting down into a graham cracker only to have the molten marshmallow rocket out the back and drip to the ground. The feeling of puffy hot sugar scalding your mouth. The perfect bite of chocolate that is soft, but not yet all the way melted. Sometimes I think I can still feel the stickiness of the marshmallow all over my face.

One of the greatest joys of smores is that they are enjoyed around a campfire, with people you know and love dodging smoke Matrix-style, sharing life stories. Do you know what else that sounds like? Happy hour! So why not turn that campground classic into liquid form and throw back a Summer Smore Martini?!

How to Make a Summer Smore Martini

This smores cocktail recipe is so much easier than you probably think it is. Start, like any true martini should, by chilling your martini glasses in advance. You want those suckers bone-chillingly cold. While the glasses are chilling, crush your graham crackers into chunky dust and set them aside.

Take your chilled martini glass and “wet” the rim by dipping it in the Hershey’s syrup. Alternatively, you can dip just one section of the side of the glass into the syrup, creating more of a patch instead of a rim. Dip the rim (or patched section) into your graham cracker dust.

Into your chilled martini glass pour the chocolate liqueur. You can do this over an upside-down spoon to reduce the splatter if you are going for a photo-worthy cocktail. In a separate container, mix the cream and vodka. Pour that mixture over an upside-down spoon to create the upper layer of the cocktail.

Garnish with a white fluffy marshmallow. If you happen to have a food-grade butane torch, you could toast that marshmallow for an even better presentation! As always, drink responsibly.

Music Recommendation

In sticking with the general theme of groups of friends and loved ones sitting around a campfire, happy hour, bar, patio, etc., I decided to go with a song that makes you think of all those people. It’s by an artist who elicits good feelings in a smooth and relaxing way. If you aren’t transformed to another place with this song, then have a second Summer Smore Martini and you’ll for sure be transported somewhere. Mix up your cocktail and listen to Jack Johnson – Good People.

Notes

  • This smores cocktail recipe is very customizable. For a south of the border version, make a smores martini with rumchata. If you already have other liqueurs on hand try a smores cocktail with Kahlua or a smores martini with baileys.
  • If your local liquor store doesn’t have fluffed marshmallow vodka you can make your own. Just add some marshmallows to a jar, pour vodka over, cover, refrigerate and let sit for at least 24 hours. Or, just make a smores martini with whipped cream vodka, nobody will know the difference!
